Recipe # 25- "Bodhi" Fruit Blend

Be awake

Love yourself and be awake -
today, tomorrow, always.
First establish yourself in the way,
then teach others,
and so defeat sorrow.
To straighten the crooked
you must first do a harder thing -
straighten yourself.
You are the only master. Who else?
Subdue yourself,
and discover your master.
The Bodhi-Tree is a symbolic representation of the individuals journey to infinity. As the seed which begins tiny and hard grows open and free, so should the mind and heart. The tree is rooted in the ground as the self is rooted in matter. But the seed grows beyond the ground, as it perceives its environment, cares about it, and ultimately leaves the limitations of the body and matter behind. The branches reach towards the heaven yet the vines of the banyan reach towards the earth. Such is the state of mankind - always being pulled in two directions. One direction is freedom, ultimate liberation, and the transcendence of boundaries. The other direction is security, rootedness, comfort, and tradition - the self that will not turn away from the earth. The traditionalist may justify behavior by Buddhist or other ethics and ritual, but will ultimately seek comfort rather than freedom. Such people should rest peacefully at the roots of the tree and never climb it.

Giving the gift of yourself....

"Serving the world with love and cooperation,

you will find your own true Self.

As you help those in need, selfishness will fall away,

and without even noticing you will find your own fulfillment."

~Amma ♥

I had the pleasure this year volunteering my time to the
San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center. It was enlightening to meet so many beautiful parents & smiling children during the Toy Store (a big treat for them to shop there every year).  Their love for their children inspired them humbly to pick out a few free items to put under their trees.  Serving as a reminder that gifts do not have to be bought at an expensive store to show your love. I won't forget the great parents that I met there, some with despair in their eyes wondering how they're going to make it, some with  dreams of a better life & owning a business, some just plain thankful. Either way, they were hopeful survivors.
Helping them pick out presents for their children, reminded me of picking out toys for my children to unwrap. Toys that light up, Barbie Dolls in shiny dresses, Hot Wheels, Books & some DVD's. Not all the items were the "latest & greatest".

There were no Ipods & Ipads...just happy Moms & happy Dads.
(as it should be)

Donate your time more to charities and watch your life bloom in greatness and love.
